I passed this tree while on a tough run up an amazing road called Green Leaf canyon in Topanga. It is a windy, hilly, narrow road that goes through beautiful foliage and becomes more wild the higher you go. I passed this tree and then stopped and came back to it because it felt like a Doris tree to me. It is not straight, thick and closed, but unique, wise, and arched open to the sky. I was drawn to the space in its trunk. Nearly the whole body is curved open but in a cradling way and it feels like it can hold so much. It looks like a wound or a fault in its make up to have its inside exposed, yet at the same time, as if it was meant to be that way. There was a strength in that to me.
I love the strength this tree holds. It does feel wise – like its seen some things. It’s sturdy in its roots and trunk that makes it feel secure. I also like how the leaves makes it feel open to the light – a bit exposed as well, similar to its trunk, but balanced. A beautiful tree and captured moment, thank you for sharing!
Stunning! And so well said, it’s incredible to see how what appears to be this tree’s challenging beginning may have grown into something exceptional that we now see here.
Now that tree was deeply seen and felt by you, Brianna. Thank you for noticing and coming back to it…and for taking the time to share this amazing tree encounter with us. What a beautiful mirror you are…understanding that vulnerability and strength belong together and seeing that wounds can be portals, showing us what we can hold and how much space there is for us to be (not perfect but) whole. Great name you gave it!
What strikes me is it’s will to survive even though torched and gutted. We can all be inspired by that it most likely received help from it’s friends.
